Tarot cards seem to have emerged in Italy in the 15th Century in a bridge-like card game called Tarocco played by the Italian high society. Then Tarot cards popularity spread to France and were popularised by Court de Gebelin in the 18th Century

There are many Tarot decks available in lots of designs.

For example, there is the popular Rider-Waite deck and the Sharman-Caselli deck. There is also the Truth-seekers Tarot by David Fontana.

There are dozens of variations of spreads. The three spreads I like to use are the simple 3 card spread, the 7 card horseshoe spread and the Celtic Cross spread.

Tarot card reading is performed using the interpretation of cards which are dealt in a spread. This is thought to work by the linking of the unconscious  and conscious mind.

Some people like to try and ‘catch the cards out’, but this invariably fails. Also, two readings can be different on the same subject. I believe that when you have had one reading this knowledge adds to your previous experience. Therefore, you are starting the next question from a different point of reference.

The language in Tarot is quite specialised. Querant describes the person asking a question. A significator card represents the querants physical/ individual character, used in some spreads.
